It is a very common term in astrology yet not many people have the knowledge about it or have their concept clear about ‘Pitra Dosh’. And when there’s only little understanding of an aspect, myths tend to appear among people. So, let’s clarify a few of them in this post on Pitra Dosh.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗮?
In layman’s terms, our ancestors or forefathers are called Pitra. Another version of Pret is when any of our forefathers have unnatural or accidental death (suicide, accident, murder, etc.) then their souls go to Pret Yoni. This is to clarify that it is a different Yoni or species.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝗗𝗼𝘀𝗵?
Often, we see a person is a good human with virtues yet one is suffering or not getting the things one deserves for no reason whatsoever of their own. During such times, if an experienced Astrologer utilizes their sharp eyes, they can pin point the reasons behind such mishaps and sufferings via reading horoscope. It could be for the following factors in our horoscope:
- The consequences of ancestral actions reverberating into our lives.
- Past instances of disrespect or harm upon our parents.
- The untimely demise of a family member in the past.
These elements collaboratively shape the challenges that unfold in our lives, weaving an intricate web of consequences. They serve as a poignant reminder that our current tribulations may trace their origins to the actions and experiences of those preceding us. This encourages us to tread our life paths with empathy and understanding in our hearts. Life’s complexities are not solely a result of our individual actions but are also interwoven with the narrative of our familial past. This prompts us to carefully untangle and mend where required, fostering a future marked by peace.

𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗱𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝗗𝗼𝘀𝗵:
One of the most vital parts of Pitra Dosh is to know its remedy as well which is why it is suggested that you must go through this section of the post. First of all, it is to be known that our Rebirth is on the basis of summation of all the bad karma that our soul has carried forward onto this life. When a soul has more ‘good karmic’ assets to its credit, it is highly possible that it will born into a family where the hardships, mishaps, are significantly less and where the performing religious practices is easier.
However, a soul burdened with a multitude of bad karmic imprints will find itself in a family where there is sadness, sorrow, and potentially, economic challenges or educational shortcomings—ensuring a painful and distressing experience for the soul. It’s vital to understand that indulging in rituals like Puja, Havan, fasting, or making offerings to old shrines and charities won’t erase or nullify these negative karmas. The malefic impact of Pitra Dosh can only be alleviated when the individual undergoes similar suffering or distress in their current life. Subsequent births may then bring relief and prosperity.
Suffering or pain isn’t imposed by a higher power; rather, it is a consequence of our own actions. So, no. God does not give suffering. Acknowledging this truth and committing to living in harmony with the divine will is essential for breaking free from a stagnant existence. Pitra Dosh is often attributed to unhappy departed ancestors, but one might argue that it frequently arises when individuals neglect their ‘living’ parents, who may be facing hardships without the support of their children. Recognizing and addressing this truth is pivotal for a more fulfilling life.
𝗝𝗮𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘀: During PitraPaksh it is absolutely necessary to offer Jaal to our ancestors. JaalDaan is a combination of Til (black sesame seed), Jaal, and Kusha Grass. We need to do this for 15 days of PitraPaksh.
𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮 𝗗𝗮𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘀: PindaDaan is the ritual where the food they loved the most (besides Non-vegetarian) is cooked and served to Pitras on the Tithi (date) they departed. If you do not know the Tithi then you can do the PindaDaan on Mahalaya, that is called SarvopitraAmavasya.
𝗗𝗮𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘀: Brahmin Bhojan, feeding cows, donating to temple in the name of Pitras will help you to get rid of Pitra Dosh. If you do JaalDaan and charity in the name of father then the value is returned multiplied by 100 times. If someone does Tarpan and charity in the name of mother then it comes back as 1000 times to that person. If someone does Tarpan, Shradh Karma and charity in the name of sister then it comes back with 10,000 times to that person. If someone does Tarpan, ShradhKriya and charity in the name of brother then it comes back as uncounted benefit in life. So, this PitraPaksh is so beneficial for the humans of this world. While reminiscing the ancestors, loved ones, and your family, you can get the blessings to have a healthy and wealthy life. It’s a great time to earn some good karma as well keeping away from the curse of ancestors.
